Aaron Eilerts Day of Service and Giving

The ninth annual Aaron Eilerts Day of Service and Giving was held at Robert Blue Middle School on Friday, March 3 - delayed from the original Feb. 24 celebration planned (Aaron’s actual birthday) due to a snow storm.

Aaron lost his life in a tornado that went through Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch in June of 2008. Aaron had just finished the eighth grade at Robert Blue Middle School in Eagle Grove, and was excited to be serving as a Scout leader. As he always did, Aaron put others before himself, and ultimately saved many lives before loosing his own.

In February 2009, Governor Chet Culver proclaimed Feb. 24 as the Aaron Eilerts Day of Service and Giving. Only three people in the history of Iowa have had a day named after them, and a young boy from Eagle Grove is one of them.

Robert Blue Middle School is proud to say they have spent that day every year since doing service projects with their students, encouraging them to find the joy in giving to others like Aaron did.
