Darren Dicke

Eagle Grove – Darren Layne Dicke, was born Oct. 2, 1960, in Newton, KS, the son of Leland and Betty (Laswell) Dicke.

On March 22, 1986, Darren married Kathleen (Kay) Mary Schoo of Eagle Grove, IA and started their lives together in Wichita, KS. They raised their four children, John, Laura, Greg, and Michael and in 1998, they moved to Eagle Grove. The Dicke house became a common hangout for many friends during the kids’ adolescence years.

At the age of 17, Darren started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He retired in 2016, after 38 years of service. He worked through the technology era from land line to dial up, to fiber optic. Darren spent his retirement years traveling with his wife and visiting his children and grandchildren.

Darren loved his wife and children. He shared his wisdom with family and friends and was always up for an intellectual conversation; willing to challenge and be challenged by others. Darren had passion for life and was a man of conviction, he was a father who provided, protected and knew how to say “I love you”.

Darren’s kind spirit and wisdom will carry on through his children and grandchildren for many generations to come. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs on Sundays with his sons, family dinners, gatherings, and traveling with his wife wherever she wanted to go. Darren and Kay loved to do home improvement projects together. He had profound faith in one God, and was always willing to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

Darren passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father Leland Dicke and brother Dennis Dicke.

Darren is survived by his wife, Kay Dicke; children: John Dicke (Rachel) of Pleasant Hill, MO, Laura Dicke and Grant Wadle of Eagle Grove, IA, Greg Dicke of Denver, CO, and Michael Dicke of Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren: Mason, Hailey, Eleanor, Hayden, Caroline and Larke; mother, Betty Dicke, brother, Daryl Dicke (Carrie) and sister Darla Eicher (Jasper).

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The immediate family then had a private burial service at Calvary Cemetery.
