Eagle baseball breaks losing streak, beats N-K

The Eagle Grove baseball team finally enjoyed the taste of victory again, putting one back in the win column in a tight 4-3 home win over Northwood-Kensett last Thursday. Down 3-2 heading into the last of the seventh, the purple & gold plated two scores to decide it.

Nick Halverson was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Blake Morgan also doubled in his lone connection and had an RBI. Mark Dawson, Thomas Matthes, Peyton Woodbeck and Andrew Dencklau all reached on singles, with Cayden Schultz and Jordan Morris crossing the dish once each. Dawson and Morgan swiped a stolen base each, while Dawson and Leo Calles both used a sharp eye in getting two walks each. Matthes, Morgan, Woodbeck, Dencklau and Schultz all took one free trip to first each.

Halverson earned the win, coming on in relief of starter Chris Williams and shutting the door in allowing just two earned runs on a five-hitter over 3 2/3 innings. He walked two batters. Williams went the first 3 1/3, with one earned on one hit for a good performance on his part.

“We finally got back the winning feeling,” stated head skipper Jordan Miller. “Chris gave us a good start to the night, and Nick gave us a gutsy relief performance.”
