Eagle baseball comes close to getting another win Fall to North Union 9-7 in great effort

The Eagle Grove baseball team traveled to Armstrong last Wednesday and put up a valiant effort to pick up another win before falling 9-7 to North Union. The Warriors went up 7-0 after three full frames, aided by a four-run second inning. The Eagles then plated their first two scores in the top of the fourth, and finished strong in creating a four-run inning of their own in the seventh to give themselves a chance to still pull it out.

Leo Calles carried the big lumber in this one, going 3 for 4 including a double. He had an RBI and crossed the plate twice. Thomas Matthes continued his recent strong hitting in going 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Blake Morgan contributed a double in his lone hit, and drove in a run along with scoring one. Nick Halverson, Cayden Schultz and Peyton Woodbeck all connected on a base hit each, with Nick and Peyton driving in one each as well.

Morgan used his speed to grab two steals, with Mark Dawson, Matthes and Calles all picking up one base theft apiece. Dawson used a sharp eye to draw two walks, with Morgan, Woodbeck and Andrew Dencklau all issued one free pass each.
