Eagle track and field go to qualifier at Garner: Derricklee Harms advances to state

The Eagle Grove boys track & field team competed last Friday at the Class 2A state qualifier in Garner.

Lake Mills took the team title with 105 points, followed by: Pocahontas Area 101, Aplington - Parkersburg 96, Forest City 73, Osage 60, Denver 59, Crestwood 54.5, New Hampton 45, Garner-Hayfield/Ventura 43, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 42, Emmetsburg 37 and Eagle Grove 25.5.

“I know the team score will not show it, but I thought we put together our most complete meet of the season in terms of our overall competing,” stated head coach Ben Demuth. “While there were a few events I thought we should have done better in, I thought it was a very good night for us. We had 14 events with a season-best time or mark, and that is what you want at the end of the season.”

He felt the throwers continued to do well, as all three of them placed. “Joel made the finals in shot with a personal best, which was big for him going into his senior season,” said Demuth. “Leo continues to shine by making the finals of discus and that was a total surprise for me. He is such a hard working and great young man and he deserved it. Dallas wanted to do so much better than where he placed, and I ache for him, but he was the hear of our field events this year and in many ways on our team. He has given us so much, and I am just proud to have had him be a part of this for the past four years.”
