Eagle wrestlers take third as a team at Manson sectional Three qualify for district round this Saturday

The Eagle Grove wrestling team got as much mileage out of their tank as possible last Saturday at a 1A sectional tournament in Manson, but in the end it wasn’t enough to send the team into regional duals. However, it did continue the season for three of the Eagles to compete this Saturday at the district event in Lake Mills.

A powerful Emmetsburg team took the title with 290.5 points, followed in order by: Graettinger-Terril/R-A 222, Eagle Grove 167.5, Manson NW Webster 117.5, South Hamilton 102, North Union 49, West Bend-Mallard 45.5 and St. Edmond 34.

Gabe Rolon (120), Mark Dawson (145) and Joel Mendoza (220) will all represent the team at districts. Rolon followed a bye with a pin in 1:42 to move into the title match. He then pinned Matthews (GT-RA) in just 48 seconds to send him on down the trail. Dawson started his day with a bye, then won with a technical fall 22-7 over Jensen (GT-RA) to make the finals. He lost the match, but had already beaten Jensen so no wrestleback was needed as he automatically advances.

Mendoza also started with a bye, then squeaked out a 3-1 win over Anderson (Emmetsburg) to reach the finals. His 8-2 win over Steeleman (GT-RA) keeps his season going.
