EG Area School District - helping ELL students for more than a decade

Imagine if you had to make your home in a place where you didn’t speak their language. For some, it isn’t a choice. Children do not have a say where they live. They go where their parents take them. Now imagine that child not only moving to a town full of strangers, but going into a school where they can barely, if even at all, understand what is being said to them, and knowing they are still expected to learn.

Scenarios like this are becoming more commonplace all over the country, but in Eagle Grove, the school district is proud to say they are already ahead of the learning curve. They have been working to hone in on skills to teach English Language Learners (ELL) students for more than a decade.

It was 11 years ago when Molly Wilson began working in the Eagle Grove Area School District as a one-on-one para. Eventually, she and the district saw the need to help ELL students adapt to their new surroundings. That’s when she went back to school so she could fill that role.
