Heartland Museum makes learning about local history fun

Some kids love history. For some, it’s not exactly their favorite subject. But no matter what side of the coin Eagle Grove Robert Blue Middle School fifth graders are on, they all loved learning about the past by taking a walk through it.

For years, Heartland Museum in Clarion has been inviting area students to enjoy a trip back to yesteryear, a time when things were simpler, yet at the same time, much more difficult. It was a time when horse and buggie took you to your destination rather than a car with a movie player and air conditioning; a time when people stopped on street corners to use pay phones to make a call home; a time when people went to the local medicine woman who gave them plants and homemade medicines to heal their wounds and illnesses rather than stopping at a local pharmacy; a time when men went to the local barber for a shave and people enjoyed old fashioned sodas at the local ice cream parlor...for many of these 21st Century students, it was an eye opener.
