Jack Spangler

Jack Spangler, 94, of Eagle Grove, passed away on Friday, October 30th at his home surrounded by his children.

Jack was born in 1926 to Arthur and Clara (Tuttle) Spangler in Eagle Grove. He was a member of the “Class of 1944” at Eagle Grove High School. He served in the US Army from 1951-53, attaining the rank of sergeant. He spent his time in the Korean War as a communications specialist. Upon his return to the States, he married Angeline Felbauer. The two made their home in the Eagle Grove area.

Jack was a life-long farmer. He enjoyed particularly raising cattle. He retired from active farming several years ago. In his retirement, he and Angie enjoyed sitting on their front porch during good weather watching the world go by. He loved to fish. He was a keen card player who kept everyone on their toes. Rummy King was also a favorite game and was in fact the final game he played (he was victorious). He celebrated his 94th birthday on October 27, with homemade ice cream, strawberry cupcakes and a good game of Five Crowns (which he did not win). In his last years, he would take daily car rides “farming the roads” around Eagle Grove. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Angie; children, Kim (Pam) of Eagle Grove, Kelly (Vernon Limerick) of Eagle Grove, and Nancy (Edwin Martin) of Charlottesville, Virginia; four grandchildren, Michael (Amber) of Farnhamville, Matthew (Katie) of Ankeny, Marcus of Eagle Grove, and Katherine Spangler Martin of Charlottesville; and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and best friend, Abe, of Eagle Grove. He was a beloved uncle and great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. His sweet cat, Miss Kitty, will miss him dearly.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Carroll, Arthur Jr., and Kermit, and his sisters, Dorothy Buss, Ina Mae Skadburg, Clarice Carlson and Emma Jean Bloxham; and great granddaughter, Gracie Spangler. A private family ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Foust Funeral Home.

Memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
