Kenneth Hamer

WOOLSTOCK – Kenneth Charles Hamer, the son of Harvey O. and Florence O. (Smith) Hamer, was born on April 8, 1939, on the family farm in Woolstock, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1957. Kenny then attended Iowa Central Community College.

On October 15, 1961, Kenneth was united in marriage with Nancy Casky in Webster City. The couple made their home in Woolstock. Nancy preceded him in death on July 6, 2014, after 52 years of marriage.

Kenny farmed and raised show pigs and breeding stock until his retirement in 2008. He and his children, Robin and Michael, showed pigs in numerous shows, including the Wright County and Iowa State Fair. In 1985 he received a cane from the Iowa State Fair for showing 25 consecutive years.

Kenny was an avid ISU fan and enjoyed wrestling, basketball and football. He was a pitcher for Woolstock’s Men’s Fast Pitch Softball team for many years. He then umpired for 10 more years. But most of all ~ Kenny loved to have a good time!!

Kenny passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at Rotary Senior Living in Eagle Grove, at the age of 82 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Max Hamer; nephews, Chad Rink and Dale Hamer; father–in law Lloyd Casky; and brother-in-law, Ed Rink.

Kenny is survived by his children, Robin Hamer of Woolstock and Michael Hamer of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Patty Rink of Woolstock and the “beloved” Gracie Lou.

There will be a party to celebrate Kenny after spring planting.
