Lady Eagles defeat West Fork, North Iowa

In a home contest last Wednesday, the Eagle Grove varsity softball team got the measure of West Fork in a high scoring 15-14 win over the Warhawks. West Fork was up 7-1 going into the bottom of the third before the purple and gold plated three scores to close the gap. With the Warhawks up 10-4 going into the bottom of the fifth, the home team exploded for seven scores to take a onerun lead which held up for them to the end.

“We’re consistently inconsistent,” stated head coach Jim McLaughlin. “We started hitting with seven runs in the fifth with errors and walks helping us. They brought their starter back in later, and we gave up three runs in the top of the seventh.”

Hannah Beecher was 3 for 6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Kaitlin Sampson was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored. Jozey Gump was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Marisa Beecher was 2 for 4 and crossed the dish once, while Kenzie Crail was 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs across. Emmy Huse was 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Cali Schultz had a 2 for 5 night with one RBI and three runs scored. Laine Morgan had an RBI and crossed once, with Ari Lyman crossing the dish twice as a courtesy runner. H. Beecher and Schultz stole a base each, with Morgan, Gump and K.
