Larry Meyer

Larry Walter Meyer, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Ceynar) Meyer, was born December 18, 1948, in Marengo, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the Victor area graduating from Guernsey High School with “Class of 1969”. Larry attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1972 with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Larry was united in marriage to Barbara Knutzon and they had a son, Bradley. He was united in marriage to Teresa Peterson and they had two daughters, Rebecca and Rachel. Larry then married Terri Jo Spangler on July 22, 2003, in Eagle Grove.

Larry moved to Eagle Grove in 1979, working 38 years as a plumber and electrician for Knutzon’s Inc. in Eagle Grove. Larry and Terri purchased Knutzon’s and operated the business from 2010-2017, when Larry retired.

After his retirement, Larry enjoyed wood working in his shop where he made many music boxes and other items. He delivered Meals on Wheels and took a lot of pride in his garden, canning produce and sharing his bounty with others. Larry loved attending his children’s sporting events and spending time with them.

Larry was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove where he served as a lector, greeter and worked in the kitchen peeling the potatoes when he was able to. Larry was huge “Hawkeye” fan and always looked forward to all of the sports seasons. He liked a good laugh and a good natured tease.

Larry passed away surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at his home in Eagle Grove at the age of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Evelyn Meyer; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Arlene Spangler; brother, Ernie Meyer; step brother, Stanley Foels and brother-in-law, John VanVleet.

Survivors include his wife, Terri Jo Meyer of Eagle Grove; three children: Bradley (Carrie) Meyer of Okoboji, Rebecca (Brian) Goodwin of Waterloo and Rachel (Chris) Monley of Altoona; grandchildren: Grant, Henry and Grace Meyer and Liam Goodwin; brother, Ernie (Linda) Meyer of Victor and sister, Marilyn (Francis) Kriegel of Victor; sisters-in-law, Linda Meyer of Victor, Linda Van Vleet of Orient and Sue (Ron) Holst of Webster City, step brothers, Richard (Bev) Foels of Oskaloosa and Jim (Elsie) Foels of Brooklyn; step sister, Millie (Carl) Purvis of Guernsey and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Monday, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
