Lois Manning

EAGLE GROVE – Lois Marie (Benton) Manning, the daughter of Leon and Martha (Clark) Benton, was born on June 3, 1926, in rural Wright County on the family farm. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, attending Holmes’s country school and graduating from Clarion High School in 1944.

On April 7, 1946, Lois Marie was united in marriage with Harold Manning at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple lived on a farm near Holmes for four years before moving to Webster City where they resided for 40 years. Lois worked for Morton’s and Webster City Products. They moved to Eagle Grove, where they lived for six years, Forest City for seven years and returned to Eagle Grove in June of 2006. Harold preceded her in death on July 3, 2006.

Lois was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church.

Lois enjoyed reading, puzzles, butterflies, fishing, camping, dancing and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, she loved her family. 

Lois passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion at the age of 95 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earl Benton (Irene) and William Benton (Jean); sister, Frances Wolf and brother-in-law, Jerry Manning (Betty).

Survivors include her children: Cassandra Nelsen (Max) of Mission, Texas, Dennis Manning (Terry) of Bondurant, Gary Manning (Jodie) of Mason City and Lynn Manning of Forest City; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 11 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield. 

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
