Lundy Hilpipre

EAGLE GROVE — Lundy Lee Hilpipre was born to Elsie Hilpipre on September 12, 1936, in Williams, Iowa. He was educated in the rural schools of Hamilton and Wright Counties. 

Lundy was employed at the power plant and the municipal airport in Webster City. In 1954, he enlisted in the 133rd Infantry Division of the Iowa National Guard and in February of 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Lundy spent 43 months in France. He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1959 and returned home. Lundy was married in 1958, while in France and had two daughters, Elisabeth and Sherri. The couple later divorced.

Lundy was united in marriage with Shirley Roe Jessen on May 13, 1972, in Elk Point, SD. Shirley had two sons, Robert and Bradley and a daughter, Barb. The couple made their home in Webster City for a couple of years and then moved to Eagle Grove in 1974. They had a daughter, Kristi.

After several years of truck driving, Lundy went to work in heating and air conditioning. He did this for 34 years, 26 of those years with Oldson’s Plumbing & Heating of Eagle Grove, retiring in 1998. 

Lundy enjoyed cribbage, horseshoes, pool, wood working, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and camping. He also loved filming family gatherings, watching his grandchildren play and his cat.

Lundy was a member of First Baptist Church.

Lundy passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond, at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie and stepfather, George Story; wife, Shirley; sons, Robert K. Jessen, Jr. and Bradley K. Jessen and daughter-in-law, Kay Jessen.

 Survivors include daughters, Liz Hilpipre (Julie Reid) of Flint, MI, Sherri Patterson (Tommy) of Comanche, TX, Barb Boyd (Wayne) of Goldfield and Kristi Hilpipre (Mike Mallinger) of Eagle Grove; daughter-in-law, Diane Jessen of Eagle Grove; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and caring friends. 

Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 1, from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
