New Eagle Grove Hotel named…”The Grove Inn and Suites"

Work on the new Eagle Grove hotel has been progressing quickly, and with it slated to be opening June 1, 2020, the committee decided it was time to give it a name.  In mid-January, they put out a call for suggestions.  The community of Eagle Grove, alumni, and former residents  did not disappoint, submitting dozen of name suggestions via the Eagle Grove Eagle Facebook page, the Eagle Grove Chamber Facebook page, and by phone to committee members.

“There were some great names submitted,” said Mickey Cooper, president of Eagle Grove Hotel, LLC.

A sampling of those names included:  Hotel 1818 (year Eagle was first platted), Talon Hotel, Liberty Inn (have a train type theme with the decorating), The Eagle Occidental (or something similar. Remember the past when building the future), The Grand Eagle Hotel, and The Eagle’s Lodge.  There were many, many ideas submitted, but as hard as it was, they had to choose just one.

After nearly a month of open suggestions, Cooper said they took the top 5 most popular names suggested and sent them to the investors for a vote.  The winning name, “The Grove Inn and Suites” was suggested by Kathy Hildebrand.  She will get a one-night free stay in the hotel as her prize to be used within six months of opening.

Cooper said that in her submission, Hildebrand noted that her reason for the name is that when alumni come back to Eagle Grove, they often say, “I’m going back to The Grove.”
