Pioneer life

For today’s students, technology is a norm. They’ve never had to slap erasers to get all of the chalk dust out of them, let alone wipe down chalkboards. They’ve never had to read by lantern light. They’ve never had to walk miles to school in the snow, and they’ve never had students grades kindergarten through middle school or high school all in one room being taught by one teacher.

It’s important for the youth of today to understand the sacrifices pioneer families made back in the day, not only to realize how different school was for kids who probably never in their wildest imaginations could have dreamed of things like SmartBoards, Chromebooks, iPads, and Wifi; but to also understand that families left behind homes, loved ones, and even faced death to pursue the hope of better land.
