Prestage Foods helping welcome new students to Eagle Grove

Three new students to the Eagle Grove Area School District this year took a short fi eld trip to the Prestage Foods of Iowa offi ce in Eagle Grove on Friday, Oct. 12. They brought along with them Superintendent Jess Toliver and New Student Success Coordinator McKristie Willard. Their mission - to thank Prestage Foods for making them feel welcome to and part of the community.

At the start of the school year, one of the goals of Willard in the new position of New Student Success Coordinator was to welcome each new child to the district with an Eagle Grove shirt. She believed this was an easy way to instantly make them feel like a part of the community. While some “gently used” Eagle Grove apparel had been donated by school staff and community members, Willard anticipated it wouldn’t be enough with the growth that is anticipated with the soon-to-beopening of Prestage Foods, but it was a goal.

When Prestage Foods heard about the schools mission, as a business that was new to the area as well 15 months ago when they started building their hog processing plant, they wanted to help out. They did so by donating $600 to the school to be used for the purchase of new shirts. Superintendent Jess Toliver was pleased to be able to work with J & J Sports of Eagle Grove to have them made quickly to start handing out.
