School Board approves Superintendent goals for year

In monthly reports from the three building principals at the Board of Education meeting this past Monday, Elementary Principal Patricia Briggs talked about a possible change with the PBIS Carnival.

“The families that attended had a great time, but it brought in less money than in the past,” said Briggs. “There is some discussion about pursuing a new event. No definite decision was made yet, but the committees will continue the discussion at a later date.”

Character Counts week was recently celebrated, and Briggs said they are incorporating the character education and pillars within the PBIS program this year. “Lessons are being conducted and we are promoting trustworthy behavior within each class,” said Briggs.

Other upcoming events are the annual Thanksgiving feast on November 20 and the PALS night on November 26th. “We would like to thank Security Bank for again donating the turkeys for our feast,” said Briggs. “Teachers are busy organizing activities and presentations for PALS night to increase parental understanding of how we use technology to enrich literacy, as well as provide ideas for parents to support their children’s learning at home.”

She also touched on the referrals for the year so far. “Our behavior goal is to reduce the number of discipline referrals by 20 percent from last year,” said Briggs. “At this time we are just a little behind on this goal. In the 17-18 school year we had 296 total referrals, and currently we are at 240 which is down 19 percent from last year.”
