School Board increases sub pay rate for teachers, nurses

In an effort to get a larger pool of substitutes for teachers and nurses, Superintendent Jess Toliver recommended and the Board of Education approved a raise in pay to match an area district. “Currently we pay $105 per day for sub teachers and $95 per day for sub nurses,” said Toliver.

“I recommend we go to $120 per day for each to match Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. This will put us at the upper end of the pay in the area, meaning we should not have to address it for a few years. Subs for both positions are hard to get.”

In building reports from the three principals, Patty Briggs at the Elementary provided a written report as she was not present. She informed the Board that hearing tests were given this month for preschool age through second grade. The parents are encouraged to follow up with a medical provider if their child did not do well. Assessment testing will take place at the end of this month, with a team approach being used. The goal is to complete it quickly and accurately, and hopefully within 45 minutes per classroom.
