Thank you for your service

What started as part of the Eagle Grove Area School District’s Character Counts! initiative in 1999 has now become an honored tradition. The 20th Annual Veterans Day program was held on Monday, Nov. 12 at Robert Blue Middle School and was hosted by the Eagle Grove High School Talented and Gifted (TAG) students.

As Veterans and their families arrived at the school, they were greeted by students who thanked them for their service and asked them to sign in. Some were Veterans who served during times of conflict. Some served during times of peace. Others haven’t served but were there instead in honor of or in memory of a loved one who had or is currently protecting our freedoms.

After enjoying some time for camaraderie during a reception, the Veterans were asked to enter the auditorium as one large group. As they came in, they were welcomed by an appreciative crowd of community members and high school students who had gathered in their honor. Some Veterans walked in with smiles on their faces. Others shared their pride in their country and their service by wearing parts or all of their uniforms. Still others came in quietly, remembering loved ones lost whom they were there to honor.
